MEETING
"Modern, Psychology in Relation to Family Life" was the subject of the Rev. G. F. Allen's talk at the Christian Fellowship Meeting held in the Helena May Institute yes- terday morning. In which he dealt with the growing mind of the child. The speaker, former Fellow and Chaplain of Lincoln College, Oxford, is now working under the Church Missionary Society at the Union Theological College in Can-
new
Modern psychology is a name for an old thing, the speaker stated; and pointed out that the New Testament is full of this study in the past. Its second concern is for the rescue
of evil characters.
To-day the forward trend of science has moved from the study of the animal to the more thorough study
of the soul of man.
In regard to the child, ex- pertence has taught us that the period from birth to the age of five or six is the reservoir out of which character emerges. In our responsibilities for these years we are co-partners with God. It is Interesting 10 look back on our childhood days and see the pat-
terns with which we are formed. Our first memories are a clue to our character traits.
FIRST EXPERIMENTS The infant is making his frat experiments in social living and his success or failure will deter- mine the pattems of his latter reaction. At this stage two things happen. First, in his relation with the older world of power and strength the child often expects
the world to revolve round himself.: The importance of carefully hand ling the child at this stage can- not be over-stressed. Over-Indul-
gence or unjust severity to wards. him will distort the child's conception of his true position
the world. in
A soft sentimental love is therefore quite as dangerous as no love.
Secondly, with his equals in the nursery the child is imbued with the importance of his position in the family circle. Either he has tendency to be jealous or asser tive of his own rights, or he has a tendency to be inferior and then be filled with rebellion or love of power born from this inferiority, All his characteristics will reflect his peculiar position in the family constellation.
THE GROWTH OF THE CHILD
Rev. Mr. Allen pointed out that the child is building his picture

CORRESPONDENCE
› BAPTISM
The Editor, The "Dally Press."] Sir-May I put in a word in the Correspondence on Baptism that has been occupying your columns?
Some Christians unfortunately ignore the Sacraments of the Church, while others em'ggerate them out of all proporton. The Truth seems, to me, to lie between
the two extremes.
Though of inestimable value they are only Symbols and Shadows of use "Until He Come" and to be discontinued when the present Dispensation ends, and Realities and Fulfilments take the place of

Baptism was intended for the Church Militant in Her Missionary Campaigns; and is an ordinance difficult to understand in our stagnant Christendom.
Among others, the following citations from the Bible will be read: "And there sat in a window a certain
named young man Butychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and 遇 Paul was long preaching. he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third toft, and was taken up dead. And Paul went down, and fell on him; and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. When he therefore was come

bones: not 'one of them is broken.” (Acts 20;9-12. Psalms 34:19,20).
The Lesson Sermon will also in clude the following passages from the Christian Science, textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "Accidents are unknown tu God, or
