Convocation Motion Submitted To Be League

Rome, Dec. 2. The motion of Cabelleros re- quring 1. convocation of the League of Nations was submitted to the Italian Government by the Secretary-General of the League of Nations, M Avenol. In Rome political circles it was openly re- jected as a transparent manoeuvre on the part of Moscow to inten- sfy the political antagonisms in Europe still further. Authorita- tive circles point out that Italy has virtually ceased to be a part- to the League of Nations since last June. The same circles consider that the Italian Govern- ment will make no answer to uniswer to Geneva with respect to the motion submitted by Cabel- leros.- P'runsoceaa Nrus Service.

correspondence

I have read through past official on this subject, and all that emerges therefrom is that on the 1st December, 1932, the Secretary of the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce wrote, -by direction of the Committee of the Chamber, to say that the Com- mitter was unanimously of opinion that any alteration in the present Hong Kong Standard Time would be very undesirable indeed, and that it would be strongly opposed to any such legislation BS WAS suggested. It was represented in this letter that the standard time of the 120th Meridian. is the standard time for Canton, Shang- hat and the greater part of China and that from the Commercial point of view that was very de- sizable and a distinct advantage to trade. There followed however no explanation as to how and why.
