on Friday night on the s.s. Fat- shan for Canton to play in their
match annusi
against the Deutsche Garten Klub.
Arriving in Canton at daylight. the visitors had a practice match during the morning and officia matches played in the afternoon. The position at the close of play was five matches all.
The visiting ladies won all their matches, Miss Griffiths and Mas Mackenzie being the most im- pressive. Miss Dalziel also play- ed a steady game. The German ladies were no match for their young opponents.
Of the
men only Gray and Capell won at the expense of H Rode and H. Schneider, both play- ing well G Bodiker and W Sander, beat Gray and Fincher, the
winners playing well to- gether.
On Saturday night a dinner wie held in
honour of the visitors followed by a dance a large crowd attended.
Yesterday morning members of both teams engaged in a shoot" ing match and this was followed by the remainder of the tennis matches.
Results were as follows:-
S. A. Gray beat H Rode, 6-3, 6-3;, "A. W. Ramsay lost to W. Nogait- zik 3-6, 1-8; A. G. M. Philippens lost to W. Bander 0-6 1-6; R 8. Capell beat H. Schneider 4-6, 8-1. 6-3; W. W. Hirst lost to E. Dillner I-4, 3-6; V. H. Freeman lost to H. Lehman 9-11, 3-6.
