ROUSING SOCCER

ENCOUNTER

(BY VOX POPULI) The premier league Axture be- tween South China "A", and Chin-" ese Athletic, which had been re- garded as the tit-bit of the week's soccer, was played before a fair- ly moderate crowd at Caroline Hill on Sunday. "The honoura of the encounter went to South China "A" and they deserved to win, al- though a certain amount of praise be donated to the losers. muist The assumption that China "A" would have

win was DATOW hardly correct as they ran out winners by the comfortable mar- gin of four goals to none.

Both gave the spectators their money worth: Mr. Kossick capably handled the game which started at 4.15 p.m. sharp.

SOUTH CHINA WIN TOSS South China "A" won the toss and Athletic broke away from the kick-off but sent wide. In the early stages of the game the South China forwards did not seem to be tog sure of themselves: their shooting being slightly erratic, Wong Mel Shan in particular at fault in this respect. Failing to convert a penalty kick in the last minute of the game the Easterns were robbed of a well deserved, point and left the Royal Uister Rifles winners in a game in which they were made to look anything but the redoubtable side that their previous perform- ances have suggested them to be.

The Rifles just managed to gain their lone goal through Doherty nine minutes after the kick-off. Cheng Sut Hong's Spot-kick which would have earned the Eastern the maximum points was foiled by Connor.

Taul Hang gave a fine display between the sticks.
