colours were

boldly contrasted

the outstanding feature of all sports clothes. This season the colours are matched and harmonized rather than con- rasted. Tweed, skirts have sweat- ers, cardigans. and scarves knit ted 12 wools dyed to match. Brown and copper are harmoniz- ed with soft gold and amber, grey complementa grey, and the new wine shades are worn with soft cyclamens and dull pinks. Purply " or smoky blue goes with hyacinth and lavender, and a deep greyish green can be worn with a. some- what lighter shade.

Broadcloth Ls the favourite material for town coats and suits, which are all heavily trimmed with Persian lamb. Their sombre appearance seems to demand splash of colour, and here it is bright and' varied. With a black coat colour may be given by a dress in a vivid shade of purply blue or coral red. Under à brown coat gold, flamme, or "polson- green" is efective. When bright-coloured frock is worn all the accessories should be black or brown to match the coat. Take Straight Back Line

An avening outline that has a sporting air is attractive on ac- count of its extreme simplicity, u characteristic of Molyneux' mood when designing mid-season clothes This simplicity is exacting, not only in cut and line, but proper- tion, and grips the figure. -Sports- women will like it because it does not introduce fussy details.

A black net overskirt shaped round the hipline floats away from either side front into a full hem→ line. It goes over emerald green and black satin foundations, and these skim the figure to instep length. A couple of "rose-pink peonies achieve a charming all- houette, to one side of the black net overskirt. -

Floats occur again in another treatment which is entirely differ-.. ent, an idea carrying a long scarf contrasting peach-beige "on to a slender black crepe evening grown." This scarf starts by being twisted round the nape of a necklace de- collete and drops into straight panels from before each shoulder to the ground. These panels are a graceful asset and can be wield- ed in various ways according to the individual.

'Graceful, too, is the long Dal- matian float of black lace falling from napeline over the open back decollete of another black gown.

Gowns with costfrock allure are lath-like in effect with button and button and button-hole fastenings, running in length down centre or side front. These fastenings stop short of hemlines to leave an opening for freedom of movement. In one instance they only appear on the corsage of an old gold cloky aime, model, which is given an old gold "tafet waistbelt swathed to the figure and ending in a glant "chou" at one side.
