Yesterday was the 70th anniver- sary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's birth. and Chinese "of the Kuomintang Party (which Dr. Sun founded) in China, and throughout the world paid homage to a man, who spent practically his whole life working for the success of the revolution. Which made China a Republic.
The chift observance was held at Nanking, the capital of the "Nationalist" Government, where the remains of the late Dr. Sun Yat-sen now tle in the vault in the stately mausoleum on the slopes of the Purple Mountain.
It is interesting to note that Dr. Sun Yat-sen was intimately con- nected with Hong Kong, for it was here that he received part of his education as a medical studeris of the Hong Kong School of Medicine, Hong Kong University, graduating on July 16, 1892.

Street Sleepers Shelter Society
At the third annual general meeting of the Street Sleepera' Shelter Society "held in St. John's Cathedral yesterday afternoon. Mr. R. Ashton Hill, acting Chairman of the Society, stated that`s even if they had ten shelters they would not be meeting "the need. They had a balance of only $2,000 and did not feel justi- fled at the moment in making any attempt to increase the num- ber of shelters from three to four. He would like, therefore, whilst thinking those who had subscribed to the work in the, past, to make for their continued and increased support. The work needed expanding, he said; and they could not expand unless they bad the money.
Prior to the meeting an "At { Home" was held for volunteer helpers of the Society.
Supporting Mr. Ashton Hill at the meeting were the Hon. Dr. R. H. Hotewall. Miss R Mow Fung (Hon. Secretary), Miss D. Lee (As- sistant Hon. Secretary), Mr. An- drew Cheung (Hon. Treasurer), Mr. Tang Shiu Kin, Miss M Blan- chett and Mr. J.-C. M. Grenham,

This gives me a chance to say how much this society owes to Sir Henry's interest in its work. From the very first he took his turn week by week as a volunteer worker at St. Peter's shelter and during the last two years the work which he has done for the society has been invaluable. The volunteers are the backbone of this society and it is a great encouragement to the com- mittee to have as chairman one
