Clearing Agreement Terms

London, Nov. 8.

A summary of the terms of the new Anglo-Italian clearing · agree- ment and commercial agreement, was communicated to the House of Commons by the President of Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Runcl- man who expressed the hope that they would enable trade between the two countries. to be satisfać- torily re-established on basis

which would promote a progressive return to normal conditions.

The clearing agreement provides that all debts in respect of the price of Italian ported goods into the United Kingdom, shall); continue to be paid to the Anglo- Italian Clearing office, and that this sterling shall be allocated as follows: 70 per cent to the current trade, l.e. trade after July 14, last- 27 per cent to commercial arrears of which 18 per cent will be allocated in respect of the ment debts for imports inta Italv from the United Kingdom, or freights for the period, March 17, 1935 to November 18, 1935, covered by the payments agreement of Apr. 1933; and 9 per cent to the pre-agreement debts and extra agreement debts, the former hav- ing being incurred before March 18. 1935 and the latter between November 17, 1935 and July 18, 1938. The remaining 3 per cent was for financial debts and re- mittances. The sterling collected by the Anglo-Italian Clearing Once from July 15 to November 15, to be allocated as to 50 per cent to the current trade and as to 50 per cent. to the arrears.
