Eldest Son Of Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo

FUNERAL OF MASTER

KUEN

LO TAK

It is with the deepest regret that we have to record the death of Master Lo Tak Kuen, aged 14 years, the eldest son of the Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo and Mrs. Lo, which occurred az his father's residence.. "Wood- green," No. 68. Conduit Road, in the early hours of yesterday.

The late Master Lo Tak Kuen graduated from the Hong Kong Branch of the Lingnam School only this summer and entered King's College at the beginning of the pre- sent school term.

The deceased became fil a few days ago and passed away at dawn yesterday.

The late Master Lo possessed a characteristically lovable disposi- tion, a sweetly gentle temper, and * most considerate regard for everyone. All those who came into contact with him, whether at home or in school, can testify to the saintliness of his fine character,

He had a love which never 'hardened, a temper which never tired and a touch which never hurt. He seemed too good for this world and thus in the silence of the dawn his soul passed away to the Great Beyond.

The sympathy the entire Chinese and foreign communities will be extended to the Hon. Mr. and Mrs. M. K. Lo and family in the very heavy bereavement they have been called upon to bear.

INCREASE IN NUMBERS

We have received the report of the Hong Kong Girl Guides As- sociation, for the year 1935-36, which discloses the fact that the association is in A flourishing condition.

There are seven companies of guides in Hong Kong, and six in Kowloon, a new company being re- cently formed at the French Can- vent, known as the 7th Hong Kong Company.

The following are the companies in Hong Kong: 1st. Hong Kong (Garrison); 2nd. (St. Paul's Col- lege): 3rd. and 4th. (Belllios School); 5th (Holy Spirit School): 6th (Mul Fong School); 7th. (French Convent).

Kowloon companies are as fol lows: 1st. Kowloon (C.B.S.); 2nd. and 3rd (D.G.B.); 4th. «(Victoria Home); 5th. (St. Mary's Convent); 6th. (Maryknoll Convent).

There are five Brownle Packs in Hong Kong. They are: 1st. Hong",

(Garrison): Kong (Peak); 2nd. 3rd. (Royal Uster Rules); 5th. (Bellllos); 8th. (French Convent). In Kowloon the Packs comprise: 1st Kowloon (St.Andrew's); - 2nd.

(Garrison); (D.0.8.); 3rd.

4th. (Maryknoll Convent).

While there was an increase of thirty-eight Girl Guides in the Colony during the year under review bringing the total to 273, there was a decrease of twenty- six Brownies. making their total

120.

During the year. two severe blows were sustained in the local.

Four months later in recognition of her work. his salary was further Increased to $25. He was the sports writer and as such was given compli mentary tickets for the different sporting centres in the Colony. Plaintiff was then asked to assist in the advertising department and his salary was increased to $30 plus se provision allowance and this remained until his dismissal which was brought about by the publication of the notice in the

paper.

DISMISSAL ADMITTED Mr. Hugh Jones remarked that the defendants admitted that they dismissed, the plaintiff and argued that the only issue was whether or not the words contained in the publication were in fact defama- tory without any question at all whether they were capable of be- ing defamatory as there had been no innuendo pleading. He sub- mitted that the words were not

defamatory in their natural and obvious meaning They accused the plaintiff of nothing. He added that for every dismissal there was a reason even though the reason may be entirely capricious.

Mr. Zimmern argued that if it was intended by the defendants merely to convey to the public that the plaintiff had been dismissed they could have said so in a dif- ferent way. They could very well have said that the plaintif had severed his connection with the newspaper. It was the uszza! wording in a notice of this kind. 'under the British Legion Schemes.
