· AMBASSADOR'S VISIT Sir Hughe Montgomery Khatch- bull-Hugessen, British Ambassador to China, is expected to come to Canton shortly from Shanghai en routes to Hong Kong, information from authoritative sources reveals.

It is generally believed that while in the south he will confer with both the Chinese and colonial au- thorites on the railway connection problem.

Besides the railway problem, the British authorities, it is under- stood, also intends to discuss with the Chinese authorites the exten- sion of the Singapore-Hong Kong section of the British Empire Air Line to Shanghal. Whether this matter can materialize 13, however, quite questionable, im view of many dimeuities involved.

NEW CURRENCY POLICY Following the enforcement of the new currency policy in Kwang- tung by the Central Government, the value of the notes of the three Government banks in terms of risen Hong Kong currency has considerably. The present quota- tion is $100 legal tender notes to $96 (Hong Kong money). It is expected that the value of the two currencies will be at par in the future when Kwangtung's financial situation is further stabilized.

Large quantities of legal tender. hotes were shipped from Shanghat to Canton during the last few weeks, the greater part of which will be used for the redemption of the "small money" subsidiary notes issued under. General Chen Chi- tang's regime.-' Central News Agency.
