Dodwell arrived later together, it seems strange to see them without their cousin Pamela, who left for home earlier in the week. Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Bathurst were together and were later joined by the Patona.

On Friday evening there were four cocktail parties.

The Bells gave a very large farewell party in the Roof Garden of the Hong Kong Hotel which was'a huge success, and I under- stand that they will be leaving for England very shortly for good.

Another good party that same evening was the Dissbrow's which was held in their flat, and was also a great success. One had a chance of meeting a number of the new naval contingency and

there were also a large number of the old faces to be seen.

POPULAR "QUEENIE" :. Queenie and her troupe are cer- tainly drawing the crowds to the Gloucester on Wednesdays and Saturdays" and will, be much miss- ed when they leave next month. On Saturday night the place was 'packed to capacity and there seemed to be several celebrations taking place. There was also a large birthday party in the Roof Garden of the Hong Kong Hotel The crowd seemed to be inter- changing between the two hotels during the evening, and at the end the Roof Garden of the Hong Kong Hotel was very full.

FASHIONS AT THE RACES

There was an extra good atten- dance at the races on Saturday, and many luncheon parties in the various boxes beforehand.

The weather was perfect and everybody seemed very pleased

with life.

HE. Sir Andrew Caldecott and Lady Caldecott were present; also General and Mrs. Bartholomew and Colonel Harrison. Mrs. Wey- mouth I thought, looked particu- larly attractive in a tallored dress of fawn with navy blue; also Mza. Weldon in bottle green. Mrs. Dowling, in a coat and skirt of pink, was with her husband, and was one of the luncheon hostesses. In the Army Box. Two others who favoured pink wére Mrs. Knox and Mrs. Stocker, Mrs. Childe looked very cool and fresh in pale blue and white with a three quarter coat to match. Mr. and Mrs. Abbott I just caught "sight of in the dim distance. Miss Simmonds, back from her long holiday, look- ed extremely pretty.

Most of the racing "regular" seemed to be there but on the whole it didn't seem to be a specially good day for backers.
