Most of the contraband found by rating the vessel's sand ballast, where packages were un- earthed wrapped either in Freuch
newspapers or in paper bearing
Chinese characters.
Officials believe the packages to be the property of an Internation- al muggling gang. They say that the narcotics were apparently smuggled from China, through France, into Belgium, and then on board the ship,
The Customs agents had been warned to meet the vessel by her captain. While still in mid-At- lantic he had sent a wireless mess- age revealing that he had discover- ed some contraband on board.
