THIRD DIVISION (NORTH)

The selectors were given further cause to worry as a result of per- formances last week in the inter- port trial cricket match which took

Barrow- place on the S.C.C. ground, for

Carlisle although several confirmed pectations and practically played Darlington

The team. themselves into were others who did not come up to form. Notable was the absence Yesterday of a good opening pair of batsmen. H. A. Sevenoaks and P. . Simpson failing to impress, and L. F. Stokes and E. H. Anstice on the other team. only giving a slightly better, performance.

P. Madar's XI had first knock in the march, and put on 165 runs in just over three and a quarter hours a late stand between F. P. Balley and S. F. Shroff saving the side from being dismissed for just over the century. In reply A. J. Bar- son's XI went in and made 194 runs for 8 wickets, the skipper and, R. Booth both retiring after thev had scored a hal: century, In order to give the later batsmen a chance. H. V Parker scored 42 in a forcing innings, but was distinct- ly lucky not to have been out as he had three lives, the Arst off the tall he faced.·

The Impressive batting per- formances by A. J. Earson and R. Booth, who are certainties for the

well interport team, augurs

for Shanghai. They have boen very consistent throughout the season. Neither gave a chance yesterday. although both were beaten by the bowling on one or two occasions.
