BRITISH-ARGENTINE TRADE HITCH

A hitch has occurred in the negotiations between the British and Argentine Governments on the proposed new trading agree- ment.

Existing arrangements expire on November 6, and formal notice has been given to terminate them.

Negotiators for the Argentine, who have been discussing the terms of a new agreement with British Government representa- tives, recently sent 1 draft to their Government

Information has now been re- ceived from the Argentine object- ing to the proposal to impose three farthings a lb. levy on ment imported from that country.

This levy was put forward side by side with a condition that the Argentine should continue to give preferences on British goods.

The Argentine Government take the view that they should not be expected to accept both conditions,
