HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, MONDAY, APRIL 20,
BUDGET DAY IN
1
BRITAIN
Public Shows Little Interest
London, Apr. 18, That Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, will introduce no change in his bud- get on Tuesday is now a foregone conclusion. The pelter that he does not propose to make any dras- tic modifications of the present basis of taxation is strengthened by the fact that the Chancellor is not disclosing his plans to his Cabluet. colleagues until Monday. Consequently Budget Day is ap proaching with complete apathy on the part of the general public.
The greater demands for the defence, services have rendered - possible any material remission of hand taxation. On the other owing to the considerable revival in industrial prosperity Mr. Cham- berlain will be able to provide for greatly increased payments out of the rising revenue.

BOOM DAYS RETURN
Soochow Farmer's
Luck
(Central News Agency)
Soochow, Apr 11.
ta Soochow Happy days are again with the steady apprecia- tion of the price of silk. It seems that because of their war with the Abyssinians, the Italians, are not producing as much silk this year & they used to. Then there has been a failure in the cocoon crop in Japan. These have the com- bined effect in reducing the sup- ply of all on the world market. and Soochow happens to have a good turn this year.
Optimism reigns throughout the region as there are good signa to expect an excellent crop of more than 30,000 piculs of cocoon, which at the present price, will bring to the farmers about $1,000,000 sum more than the farmers ever have had for a long, long time.
ENORMOUS INCREASES
The farmers paid forty cents for a sheet of eggs. After 20 odd days 56 ata. breeding and feeding, they pro- cure 30 cattles of cocoons which. they sell for $18. This represents 3 450 per cent profit and no farmers have wonder 800chow purchased more sheets of cocoon eggs this year than any previous
