Thomas Lord was born at Thirsk in 1755, came to London as a young man and became associated with the London Club, which was the forerunner of the M.C.C.
In 1780 the club moved to White Condutt Fields and was known as White Condult Club. Other moves followed, until Lord finally found a site in the then rural district of St. John's Wood, and in 1814 the present "Lords'." was opened.
In 1931 Miss Florence Lord pre- sented to the M.C.C, a portrait by Morland of her great-grandfather.
