The London and New York silver markets were closed on Saturday.

The London/New York cross- rate was quoted at 4.923 and the New York/London rate was quoted at 4.93.

Steady but dull.

STERLING

Business was done during the course of the morning at 1/3 9/18 for cash followed by transactions later at 1/8 for January and 1/34 tor February. The market closed. at 1 p.m. with sellers at 1/34 for Arst half of January, 1/3, 7/16 Yor January, 1/31 for February and 1/3 5/18 for March, buyers at 1/18 higher respectively.

U.S. DOLLARS Business was done during the course of the morning at 31 for February and later 31 13/16 for January. There were sellers al 314 for January and 31 för Febr- dary, buyers at 1/16 higher re- spectively.

SHANGHAI DOLLARS Business was reported at 1083 for spot.

SHANGHAI MARKET Opened with sellers at 1/2 15/32 for spot and closed a.shade stead- ler at 1/2 or cash. U.S. Dollars -sellers were quoted at 291 for spot.

IN THE AFTERNOON

STERLING

The afternoon session was most uninteresting; except for a couple of transactions in small amounts at 1/3 for January and 1/3 for February there were no other transactions. The market for Bierling closed at 1/34 for sellers for the first half of the month, 1/3 7/18 for the month and 1/31 tor February with buyers at 1/16 higher.

U.S. DOLLARS

Could have been obtained at 31 13/16 for near with burtS at that rate for the month. For February there were sellers at 311⁄2 with buyers at 31 11/16.
