A.D.C. PRODUCTION RECEIVING FINAL POLISH

"Musical Chairs” the play which | the AD.C. has chosen for its first production of the season, proved, when presented in London, to be that extremely rare thing-a play which the critics were umanimous ių praising. It was the first play of a brilliant young dramatist Ronald Mackenzië, who awoke, like'] | Byron, to find himself famous. Be gras hailed as the most promising British playwright of the century. and it was a very real loss to the stage when he was killed in a motoring accident in France after completing only one other play. “The Multianda.” It is significant that John Gielgud, whose present | préduction" of "Romeo and Juliet" is 'drawing all London to the New Theatre, selected both plays for production, and took a leading role in each.

IN THREE ACTS

The play is to three acts, divided into five scenes, and the "mise en scene" is an olifleld in Galicia, Po:. land. where the Schindler family, hovering on the brink of bank- ruptcy, alternate between hope and despondency as they sink the last remnants of their capital four thousand feet into the earth. 80; cleverly is the play constructed, however, that their quest for of becomes only one of the fascinat- ing problems whose solution keeps the audience in suspense. Each ni the eight characters in the play is real, Lythg person, from old Wilhelm Schindler, still pighing "Tor the bosoms of the early nine- teen-hundreds, to Anna, the Polish
