WHAT PARIS WEARS

It is difficult to lay your finger

on any particwar style and say that it is clearly and definitely what women will wear during the next few months.

There are different styles for different types of women living widely different lives. The plc- turesque disputes the right of way with the straightly tailored, »

A mors or less Renaissance dreas, with full "skirts and atting). bodice, puffed sleeves and gquara. cut neck, 19 a sheath-tight dress with long, pointed train and a s'it hem in front,

The tight dress is the dress that is going to win the race. A short, tight skirt is worn in the mom- ing, a long, tight dress for later afternoon-frankly called a cock- tall dress in Paris-and for a niea little tea party there is something shorter, but quite as tight, and a train for the evening.

11

Women dress for cocktail parties in Paris and no dress is more po- pular than the long skirt, the short Jacket with a full basque, and the short sleeved blouse. The skirt and often the jacket are made in crepe, satin or velvet, in black, sapphire blue, brown, green or navy blue,

BRIGHTLY COLOURED BLOUSES

Very elaborate blouses ga un- der the jackets. They may be of lame-brocaded, embroidered

or plain-of satin, laçe öór net, and are usually iri a light, oright colour.

The hat that crowns the dress is set on a comely head of hair and is a mere nothing of a toque with a supple single plume to trim it. Or it may, perhaps, be little more than a brim and a vell.

Schiaparelli's half-season cul- lection is sprightly. From morn to afternoon, from afternoon, to night," she expects those who

wear her clothes to look as if they had brains and knew how.tu Use them.

For sport she makes clothes which look as if they were ready for anything: divided skirts, short and not full, easy-fitting bodices, lots of pockets; tweed and jersey for golf, white silk, and shantung for tennis, with bright scarlet trimmings and, maybe, a jacket or bolero.

For games she would have you look chearrúi...

A hair-net is de rigueur for all times of the day and, for all its occasions. Dark and tidy, it goes with a beret or cloche in felt or antelope. When the frock is either a formal or an informal woollen or silken little affair fo afternoon the hair-net holds the - chignon and makes a cosy cushion for the most restless of hats to rest. on

In the evening, the hair-net is in a colour to go with the dress and has a flat jewelled comb in front. Half of the net may be sewn with coloured beads.

The hair-net is a firm feature In this collection. It means and insists that however wayward this heart, the hair shall be tidy. And who shall gainsay, the principle after a season of unrestrained curls?

THE MORAL OF MAKE-UP

Little nothings make the inter- the From the heck hang lung est of Schiaparelli's daytime clo-

Short, tight skirta with easy- niting bodices and firm shoulder outlines are right.

For herself, Schiaparelli Mikes black woollen dresses with, per- haps, a sliver belt and bit of em-: broidery in front, a beret or kept to match, and a fur cape. "

For the evening there is a des- pairing simplicity of lovely mater

wis, clingng to slender figures.

Bare arms and bare throat, backs not so bare as we have seen, trans, ha r-nets, Irwelled brace- lets which hold perfume, buttons secreting subtle scents, and every thing restrained and slightly sloof though never splendidly null--that is, briefy, what Schiaparelli wants you to wear.

Tiny brushes, designed especi ally for applying colour to the lips, are appearing on the mar- ket. Ance Shirley prefers these brushes for she has learned that with them the colour can be ag plied more evenly.

Because lamplight is apt to be yellow, Lily Pons uses a lip.rouge. with a faint blue cast for evening occasions. The result, is a make- up which appears natural instead of yellow..
