TRIUMPH FOR LAVAL

Vote Of Confidence

In Government

Paris, Nov. 28

Pierrs The Government of M. Laval obtained a vote of confid- ence, with 345 against 225 in' the Chamber's first test of deputies" opinion, according to the lobby re- port. This means the Chamber will agree to M. Laval's demand that the debate on the Govern-" ment's finance policy, which in ef- fect is to protect the franc against devalution, shall take precedence over everything else.

The most stringent precautions have been taken to maintain order. during the fateful meeting of the Chamber. Plainclothes police mingled with the crowd and 170 Mobile Guards, with carbines, waited in the vicinity of the Cham ber in case of emergency.

The entire Cabinet sat on the Government bench and M. Laval was politely applauded when ha announced he was determined not to shirk the debate.

LACK OF COHESION There was a lack of agreement on the part of the Leftists, in the Chamber as at the group meeting just before the deputies were call- together. The had failed to agree on common tactics against the Government before the Cham- bir assembled and increased the prospect of Government victory." With the opening of proceedings. in the Chamber this lack of cohe sion became apparent.
