They consist of three cruisers, one flotilla leader, eight destroyers, three submarines, one submarine depot ship, four sloops, and one surveying ship. Several small ves sels are also included in the pro-. gramme.

It is understood that £10,000,000 is a rellable estimate of the cast of his programme this being based on the belief that the three cruisers will require £5,000,000 and the destroyers £3,000,000, leaving about £2,000,000 for the. others.

"WORKS FOR THREE YEARS.

The programme is expected to be spread over the best part of three years, a cruiser taking about two and a half years to build.

The work of preparing the con- tracts is expected to take up tul February next, and it is difficult at the moment to estimate the number of workpeople who, will be employed under the orders to be placed with firms.

Some of the ships are to be built in the royal dockyards, and the work will probably be in full swidy by next spring.
