London, Oct. 15 The attendance record at Stam- tord Bridge was easy broken at the Chelsea v. Arsenal match to- day. The official figure was 82,905, The game was a classic strugg.e between two great teams.
Chelsea and "Arsenal-keenest of London football rivals-and a day of sunshine which had strayed from spring. No wonder the vast, step terraces and the grandstand at Stamford Bridge were packed.
The teams-more than half of them international players--were the strongest avaliable,
At the kick-off the ground re- cord of 77.000 must have been in danger of being passed,
There was rather more order in the early Chelsea attacks, for Ar- sena still were inclined to gamble in the long forward pass to Drake -not always too well placed.

·Arsenal began to make more general use of their forward line, but Law once took the bal. off Howden's foot, went through with it, and delivered a perfect pass to Hambrick.

Drake just missed the wing man's centre with his head. Later Bow- den slipped a shot just a foot the wrong side of the upright.
Bambrick scored for Chelsea by giving the final touch to what was meant to be a snot by Mitchel... The bali was so deflected that Wilson had no chance to stop it.
Milne got clear and hit the side, net. It remained a first-c.aSH game-a credit to every player en- gaged in it.
Chelsea, inspired by their goal, Gibson has become the schemer played wonderful football, and the -almost the dictator of the Chel-well-ordered Arsenal defence was sea attack. James remains the kept at fu.l stretch.
Jackson made an international practica director of the Arsenal 'advances. In . their strikingly goalkeeper's save from a close-in diversified ways these two were ni-header by Bowden, and jumped to ways starting something:
catch the swerving, corner-kick he gave away.
Nobody worked harder than Argue-whose flashing head and cunning feet were never far from the points of battle.
Drake was frankly and magnifi- cently a raiding and challenging centre-forward-Bambrick a more subtle, but no less dangerous spearhead because of his almost uncanny positional sense.
Law took a free kick just outside the Arsenal penalty area and re mained to send a return pass from Argue over the bar.
CROWDED OUT
Gibson brilliantly swerved past two Arsenal men, and put the ball through to Bambrick, who WES crowded out. Then an inside pass left Drake clear, but he was wide with his shot.
Gibson, in this cary period, wan the outstanding attacker. As a spectacle the match rose above the general standard of such affairs.
A great pass by Bambrick left the Arsenal defence gaping open. Spence ran on to the ball shot

Right along to the other end play was taken in two or three kicks--no Arsenal forward was up to take a loose running päse with Jackson out of gua..

GREAT TUSSLES
Chelsea were more dangerous where along their right wing. Spence and Hapgood bad some great tussles.
Hapgood appeared to prevent a Chelsea go when he deflected a shot by Spence. Then Law went right up into the attack, was foul- ed and put the free-kick just over the bar..
Half-time-Chelsea 0, Arsenal 0. As sheer 10otball entertainment -sometimes devastating in the closeness of the escapes, and the swiftness with which It flashed from end to end-there have been few games in London like this.
It fouted the theory that gamej between close local rivas must be come scrambling and unpleasant.
Every player was a trier. Young O'Hare, for example, fairly held his own against the classic James- Bastin wing. Gibson's bali control and swerving were a revelation from a player who has never before shown -us so clearly and definitely how good he is.
Miller, Craig and Mitchell were every blb as good as the Arsenal half-back line, and in attack Chel- sea were raiding again in line, and the game was as much up in the air as when it started.
Bastin ran half the length of the field, tell, and from the ground de- livered quite a good shot. Hapgood followed Law's example and dribbled up into the attack; but Chelsea hit back and Spence headed just over.
If there was a herd of the game, in which every player reached his best, it was Tommy Law, who played better than even he ever has done,
It WAS almost a tragedy · that Crayston should equalise for Arsena! from a corner-kick which, -Iven away by Law, was a great full-back's only mistake.
