Swansea's Notable Victory

F

(Special Air Mall Service)

London, Oct 10. Swansea's vic.ory over the All Blacks makes a break in the mono- tenous record of New Zealand vic- tories at Rugby football. In the course of three visi s to this country the New Zealanders have played sixty-eight games. They have been beaten only twice. The frst time was so long ago as 1905, when Wales snatched victory- cause of great disputation--by the narrow margin of a try at Cardir.

Since

against then, whether clubs, combined countries, or na tenai sides, they have avoided defeat, Swansea's victory on 8a- turday by the convincing score of eleven points to three confirms the view that a first-rate club side, ac- customed to the ways of its in- dividual members and to initiating movements that demand complete mutual understanding, can at its best be more formidable than even the best selected concen ration of

that individual talents

are un- used to combine. Even when we make allowance

the because visitors lacked in W. E. Hadley & pillar of their forward line, in Hart one of their fastest wings, and in

Swansea's

C. J. Over a remarkably reliable centre three-quarter, victory remains notable. The Welsh club's forwards played on

à heavy field a game remarkable

for the strength and skill of its attack and one that gave their back division ample chances. The movements begun by W. H. T. Davies at half-back, from which the second and third Swansea, tries resulted, must have delight- ed all who saw them. The victory should add interest to the remain- der of the tour, for it"will be well worth while to see whether any of the national sides. which the New Zealanders have still to meet will lower their colours as successfully as has this Welsh club.
