The Italian treasury returns for September show a revenue of 1616 milion lires against 599 millons for the preceding month while the the expenditure amounted to 1745 | millions against 1766 millions for August.

This leaves a deficit of 131 mil Non res. the tota: deficit for the first three months of the current budgetary year being thus increas- ed to 424 million res against 457 for the corresponding period of the previous year. This. however. does not take account of the ex- traordinary expenditure for the East Africa campaign which agg- regated 633 milion lires in Sep- teinber and 1345 million lires since July 1.
