DAY OR EVENING

ENSEMBLES

Every Detail Must Be There

More is required in our day or evening ensembles than the dress or suit. There are practically no evening or semi-evening frocks withou some sort of scarf, cape or contce. For winter these ad- dit ons are as, if not more, im- portant as the dress itself.

The same applies in another to the a lored coat and Way skirt, bicuse, hat, scarf, gloves, shoes." Ev ry detail must be there to complete the successful suit.

The "unusual charm of a black velvet coatee was worn over a semi-low sleeveless top, that had black taffeta puckered 1860 draped-up skirt. Velvet is always becoming near the face, and this shiny transparent velvet, made like an Eton coat, was specially At the end of the long-ex- 50. quisitely moulded sleeves were ruched gloves of velvet, all part of the coat itself, but quite easy to slip on, and very cosy.

The idea was a good one, For sitting in cinema or restaurant a little wrap is most welcome, and for dancing it would be shed with ease.

Little chiffon or silk capis 10 match dance ar dinner frocks are, similarly useful. These can be made by a clever amateur, cut like a cape with armholes, with flowers edging the bem and fronts to form a ruche. Such work must be dainty and light, and preserve a perfect colour-scheme.

One example was a ladupink faille dress that had a cape..of matching ninon bordered with a thick ruche of silk and velvet roses in tones of darkest.red, wine, and several graded, pinks. Shoes and gloves were of wine de Chine, and with two roses worn in the hair the effect was picturesque and young. An equal- ly charming and useful addition could be worked out by the home dressmaker in various colour schemes.

Orls, and older women, on a im.ted dress expenditure can add to their wardrobes for a modest sum, providing they can express good taste and commonsense.

Every sort of beret and toque is seen, and in an amazing variety of colours. Black, brown and dark red are good shades for tailored headgear. Velvet many makes and shades is used for the draped urban, torpedo-... toque, and college-cap.
