Sliver prices were lower yester- day to the extent of 1/8 for Ready and 3/18 for Forward, the quotations being 291 and 29 7/18 respectively. Advices China sold. Speculators operated both Waya America bought. The market closed steady. After the official axing India was reported to have bought 1/16 over the quoted
rates.
In America the rate was un- changed at 65) for spot.
The London/New York cross- rute was slightly higher at 4.891- and the New York/London rate was also higher by 1/4 to 4.008.

Opened at a lower level than yesterday but subsequently stead- ted up slightly. Towards the elose the market appeared to te a shade easier.
Sterfing
2/0 5/16 was on offer after the opening with a small business re- ported at 2/0 for near delivery, Subsequently offers at 2/0 7/18- were accepted for November de- followed by a livery and cash couple of transactions at 2/01-for forward delivery. Towards the close the market eased off and 2/07/18 was again arranged for near and forward finishing with sellers at 2/0 for October/Jan- uary, buyers at 2/0 7/16 for Octo- De- ber/November and probably cemter.
U.S. Dollars Opened with sellers at 491 re- sulting in business later at 49 15/16 for near and forward. The market closed with sellers at 49 13/16 for near and probably for- ward and buyers at 49.15/16 for ans delivery.
