PROMINENT LOCAL JOCKEY Reverting to more local matters, the re-opening of the Happy Valley racing has placed Mr. Shifty Loy- nes in a quandary. It is common knowledge to all iny readers that Shifty is a cut above all the local jockeys, and the call upon his services is so great as to cause him considerable embarrassment, He
eventually discovered that in one race he had been offered no less than three mounts. The owners of them all were so influential that a refusal would have caused the greatest offence and unpleasant- ness. Accordingly, he decided to ride all three horses at the same time, in the same race. By means of a wooden plank-like structure. he was able to run from one horse to another, giving them words of encouragement, and epuiring them with quips and blows Fortunately the Horses were rough- ly the same he'ght, and amid rousing cheers the three quad rupeds dead-heated for first place.
