EXPERT'S MISSION TO
CHINA
Sir Frederick's Statement
To The Press
Shangha, Sept. 23.
Sir Frederick Leith-Ross, accom- panied by Mr. E. Hall-Patch who, it is understood, will remain in Chins after Sir Frederick's tour is finished, as Financial Adviser to the British Embassy, left last night for Nanking where he will have conversations with Mr. Wang Ching-we! and Dr. H. H. Kung and make the acquaintance of other Important members and officials of the Chinese Gavernment. "Yea- terday morning Sir Frederick paid a visit to Dr. T. V. Soong. In the afternoon he received representa- tives of the local Chinese and Japanese press
The pressmen were told that the object of the interview was to let them see what manter of man the vistor was. They would not ex- pect him to express opinions on a country to which he was such a newcomer. His experience until lately had been that of studying
China. He had met with great kindness and the assurance that the Japanese Government desired to see a stable and strong Govern- ment in China and was ready to be helpful in whatever Was practical to restore satisfactory economic conditions. He could not expect any more precise statement, for, so far as he could judge, the | Japanese had no scheme to offer and they could not fairly be asked to say more when he on his side could express no positive view."

BRITISH INTEREST
He was prepared to stay for some months to complete his task, but he did not want to spend the rest of his days in China. He hoped, however, to be allowed, by Shang- hat and Nanking sufficient free time for visiting Peiping and, in due course, Canton.
The mission on which he has been sent, was the outcome of Great Britain's intense interest in China.
