STRAIGHT FROM THE SHOULDER

BY NO QUARTER

The outstanding event of the week has, of course, been the visit to the Colony of the thirty odd Australian Griffins, who have been invited here by the China Ponies' Withers and Chukkas Club. They arrived a few days ago, and proceeded straight to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, where they are being accomodated. In the evening, they were the guests of honour at a dinner party given by The" Society For The Aid Of Fallen Mares, and some interes- ting speeches were made.

لا

In Welcoming the Griffins to Hong Kong, Mr. Liberty Bay said:

"We China ponies of Hong Kong, and your country. horses who are domiciled here wish to extend a hearty "greeting to you on your visit here.. We are rough diamonds, but when we set out to give a welcome, our hay is our hay, and our neigh is our neigh." (applause and laughter).

"We hope to see some of you racing here before long, and although I don't like to apply the word "fast"' to any young filly, I think by the look of you that some of you are going to be speedy enough to catch the Judge's eye (prolonged laughter).
