DRESS REFORMS-IN- CANTON

(From Our Special Correspondent)

Canton, Aug. 9. Before the new measure for de- cent and patriotic dress reform takes effect, the Canson police au- these in- thorities to-day issued structions to newspaper and news agencies soliciting their opinion on this worthy project. All the three government papers featured this reform, and some expressed edi-

vial approval of it.

General Chen Tsai Tong, com- mander-in-Chief of the First Group Army is the author of this mea- sure, because he believes that in and the present time of storm stress women must dress neatly and frugally. Modern clothes are expensive while the materials have to be brought from foreign coun- tries. Exposure of bare arts and legs is considered bad taste. Lido attire is also deemed vulgar by this general.

LI

Students are not allowed to wear European dress. and girl students are not permitted to use foreign materials to make dresses. When this reform will be carried out is not announced. The measure was approved by the, Political Research Institute.

The Secret Police have appended to the decree ordering the dissolu- toh, a statement setting forth the reasons for this act, declaring that "the political development of these organisations has in the last few months, but more especially in the last few weeks, assumed forms calculated to bring the authority of the National Socialist "to dis- credit.

Numerous declarations made by members and leaders of these or-" ganisations have revealed an atti- tude in opposition or even hostile to the State... Decrees issued by the State authorities and intended to apply to the National Socialist Frontfighters Federation, as much as to others, have been either Ignored or evaded.

Until quite recently the Federa- tions have been receiving into membership.
