During the period under review

the tendency has been downwards, until to-day when better prices cabled from the East re-establish- ed the price at the 8d. level for spot here. The new: Increased taxation proposals in the USA. have had damping influence on sentiment. The lead in the ad- vance in our market came from that quarter, but since then the demand from America has slack- ened, although a more steady tone is now also apparent in New York.

Erom Malaya we hear that the validity of export licenses is to be confined to the quarter for which they are issued, and this is an- other step in tightening control. Incidentally the cast on the export of rubber is being reduced from 1. cent to 0.7 cent per lb. This is to the advantage of producers, but is of the commodity. of no influence in the marketing
