CLOSER COLLABORATION

[Special to the "Hong Kong Daily Press" (Copyright).]

Faris, July 10. The Guvernor of the Banque de France, M. Tannery, speaking at a lunch given by the American Club here, warmly advocated closer collaboration between Faris, Lon- don and New York, declaring that the world's economic fate depend- ed in a large measure upon the adoption of a common policy be- cities-the tween these three world's greatest financial centres,

M. Tannery emphasised that France had remained faithful to the Gold Standard, In any case the devaluation of the tranc at this ure would rail nothing.

The afternoon's racing was he gun with the Jersey Stakes, a race for three-year-olds "run "over the Royal Hunt Cup Course of seven furlongs and 155 yards. Among the starters was Theft, who had been second in the Two Thousand Guineas and then had run well in the Derby. Law Court, an un- teater. three-year-old, and Duke John, a colt by Blandford, who had been inentioned as a possible win- ner, the Derby, were also started. Law Court in the end was a better favourite than Theft, who was giving him 131b. It is true that Law Court had never met any colt of the class of Theft, but he had always run so well and won with such ease that there was no know- ing how good ne might be. He and Duke John were in front at the end of five furlongs, when Duke John, who probably wanted the race. was beaten. It seemed then that Law Court would win, but ne could
