Silver prices were substantially lowered yesterday by a drop of 13/16 for both deliveries, the qua tations were 31 for Ready and 317 for Forward. The drop was attributed to heavy selling on the part of India. Africa, China and speculators bought" at the decline. The market closed steady but after the official fixing there were further heavy selling on the part of India, which was absorbed by. good American buying. The mar- ket eventually closed steady at the quoted rates.

In America the rate was lower at 70% for spot.
