Silver prices dropped yesterday to the extent of 3/4 for Ready and Forward, the quotations being 32- 15/16 and 33-3/18 respectively. The drop was attributed to gener- al selling. India and speculators bought at the decline. The tone at the close was steady.

In America the rate was lower at 73-1/8 for Spot.

The London-New York cross rate ,was quoted at 493 and the New "York-London at 492-1/2.

Sterling There were sellers after the opening at 2/4-11/16, buyers bid- ding 2/4-3/4 for near, resulting in business at 2/4-3/4 for June and 2/4-15/16 for July. Later the market steadied up to 2/4-7/8 July with business done at 2/4-7/8 for June, 2/4-15/16 second half of June, 2/5 July, 2/5-1/16 August and 2/5-1/18 July. Towards I p., a transaction was also report- ed at 2/5 for near delivery. The market closed at 1 p.m. with sell- ers at 2/5 May-June, 2/5-1/18 July and probably 2/5-1/8 August buyers at 1/18 higher respectively. U.S. Dollars

Business was done shortly after the opening at 59-1/8 for June. later transactions were arranged at 69-1/4 for June, 59-5/16 for July and 59-7/16 for July. Towards "i p.m. 59-3/8 and 59-7/15 were arranged for near delivery, There were sellers at 59-3/8 May-June, 59-9/18 July. buyers at 59-1/2 May-June and 59-5/8 July.'-
