CHILD WELFARE
Shaohing Falls In Line
(Special to the "Hong Kong Daly Press" (copyrights.)
shaoning, Cheklang, May 7.^ It has been the fashion in recent. years to made elaborate prepara-
tions for the celebration of any.) important anniversary or festival in this country as it comes along. but as soon as the celebration is over, the significance of the event 19 almost not entirely forgotten. In pursuance of the order of the National Government to make this Child- year-beginning April- ren's Year, more public interest. however, is being taken in child- ren's welfare. It is both right and proper that people in this country should pay special attention to children and foster their advance- ment and education but one can- not help feeling that there is something more in this connection that the leaders of such move- ments should not ignore. This is the problem of child welfare in the Interior, which has been tackled with commendable success in vari- ous points.
M
FREE EXAMINATION
For instance, for the last two years there has been In Shaohing a free examination of children by city doctors, followed by prize- giving at bables health compett- tions. Two days ago,"Dr. Goddard was invited, by the city Govern- ment to give a lecture at the New | Public Health Nursery in
the morning. In the afternoon, the hospital put on a show that was Jescribed by the local papers as a "unique thing, never before done In Shaoning.” namely, the public bathing of all babies whose parents desired it. Nurses at the bath- tubs had their hands full, and plenty of pure soap, towels and powder had to be taken from the hospital supplies. The böspital also displayed posters, clothing, foods and bottles for the parents to study.
