Shanghai, May 9. The interest. of Chinese bankers. and financiers is, for the time "be- ing, concentrated on an order. is- sued by the Minister of Finance. calling for the prompt re-opening of local native banks which have closed their doors recently, some on account of the depression. others

because their managers have absconded. The general con- sensus of opinion, is that, at the present time, attempts to force these banks to resume. business will be found exceptionally dim- cult, especially in

case of absconding officials, who are stated to have "gone Ningpo more tar" with large sums of money entrust- ed to their banks.
