HONG KONG'S
IMPORTANCE
The speech made by Mr. Wong Kwong Tin, the chairman, at the meeting of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce on Thursday must have, by this time, been read and digested by all who have any i terest in the business of not only Hong Kong and South Chins but also the world in general. As might have been expected Mr. Wong's speech was a very comprehensive review of conditions obtaining in Hong Kong and China at the moment and it must have been a great source of satisfaction for all bad times it was possible for the concerned that despite the very
chairman to report so favourably on the year's working.
Touching upon the subject of quotas. Mr. Wong said that the
Ei., the Admiralty Overseer, Geylon, and the Staff Officer (Intelli- gence), Colombo, should' continue to be addressed to H.M. Naval Office, Colombo. ».

The change is on account of the relief of the Hawkins as flagship in the East Indies by the Norfolk. The main base of the squadron 13 at Trincomalee, but a separate establishment has been maintain- ed for the personnel at Colombo. The practice of adding numbers to the names of the flagships or depot-ships is one which has grown up since the War. The President, RNVR, dship at Blackfriars had a numerous progeny at one time-President II. for the head- quarters and other staff of the RN. Air Service. President III for the DAMS (defensively armed merchant ship' staff), President IV. for the Coastguard, staff, President V. for the Anti-Aircraft Corps, and President VI.
