N. Shantung, Mar. N.. "Improvements and impending changes are altering through to the up-country cities and villages of even the remote parts of Shan- tung. Military drill is being re- quired of youths between twenty and thirty, the avowed intention being thus to furnish a reserve militia Three hundred, or so were a few weeks ago drafted to this centre, and, after drill routine for a few weeks, another group follow- ied,

an interest in improving the cotton yield and agrees to bring, without cost, from Lintsing and elsewhere, ..¦ seed which will give a considerably larger yield than the short staple cotton grow at present.
