TERM OF RECRUITS
Paris, Apr. 5.
The Supreme War Council met on Friday afternoon to discuss the retention under colours for a fur- ther period of several months of those recruits who finish one"year's military training in April 13.
At 9.45 this morning H.I.H Prince Chichibu, the brother of the Emperor of Japan, accompanied by a Reception Commitee of fourteen of Japan's highest officials, pro- 'ceeded on board to welcome the Emperor Kan.g-te.
N
THREE YEARS AGO
His Majesty had left Dairen four four days before, accompanied by a suite of seventy-four leading Manchoukuo officials, on the first journey he had made outside his realm since he was enthroned
Princes of the Blood: the Premier Admiral Okada, and the other Ca- binet Ministers, Baron Ikki, Pre- sident of the Privy Council; Count Makino, Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal; Viscount Matsudaira, Grand Master of Cererhonies; the "Gover- nor of Tokyo Prefecture: the Mayor or Tokyo and a galaxy of high mill- itary and naval officials.
Following formai, Introductions and a number of presentations, the Emperor of Japan returned through the densely crowded streets amid roars of "Banzal," to the Im- perial Palace, while the Emperor Kang-te, accompanied by Prince Chichibu and escorted by a squad- ron of Imperial lancers, proceeded In a motar-car to the Akasaka De- tached Palace, where he will re- siar for the next nine days. Just outside the Central Station the Imperial cortege passed under a huge triumphal arch, 55 feet high and sixty feet in width, erected by the Municipality of Tokyo in hon- our of the distinguished visitor.
BEAUTIFUL EMPTRE
Through the Minister of the Im- perial Household, Mr. Chen Juf- lin, the visiting Emperor issued a very cordial message to the Japan- ese nation expressing his extreme pleasure in being able to visit the "beautiful and prosperous empire of his friend and ally, the Emperor of Japan."
The Emperor Kang-te, better known abroad 23 Henry Pu-vi, was born in 1906, He succeeded bls uncle, the ill-fated Kuang Hsu, as Emperor of China in November, 1908, but abdicated in February,
1912. M. Laval and
M. Flandia and War Minister Maurin were present. That the recruits will be kept un- der colours was definitely decided but no final decision was reached as to whether the service will be prolonged til the end of July or the end of December though the probability seems to favour the for- mer proposal. As soon as the Supreme War Counell makes up its mind the cabinet will confirm Transocean Kuo Min.
