RUBBER PRICE AGAIN LOWER

(Special Air Mall Service)

London, March 15.

With the exception of rubber, commodity prices in this country were steadier on Saturday, but in spite of a rally in heat, and- cotton at Liverpool, New

York prices continued weak.

Rubber prices continued to slide away. There was further specula- tive liquidation on Saturday, and spot closed 1-8d per lb. lower at 57-18d, the lowest recorded since the present regulation scheme has been in operation. It may be that there is another 20,000 tons or so of weak rubber to be let out before the fall is finished, but the market is already healthier for the shake-

out

It seems extraordinary that the International Committee, when less than three weeks ago it fixed the restriction percentage as far abead as the end of next Saptam- ber, did not see either the over bought speculative. position nor the turn for the worse in American affairs which started the selling. During that period of under three week spot rubber has fallen from € 5-18d per lb, to 57-168.

It is difficult to resist the con- clusion that the committee miscal- culated. The market nevertheless, hopes that they will not be driven to the other extreme of excessive restriction when the present period runs out.
