promoter of the Centenary (Special Air Mail Service)

Singapore, March 18. Sir MacPherson Robertson, the

race to Australia, which he pre- 'sented a valuable cup, arrived in Colombo the other day in the Otranto, on his way to London with Lady Robertson.

Str MacPerson Robertson is de- scribed as Australia's chocolate king, being the sole proprietor of Mac Robertson, the confectionery manufacturers, a firm he founded hard many years ago, after a struggle as a boy of 14,yearning 25. 6d. a week.

I.

Speaking to a reporter on boara the Otranto, Bir MacPherson sald he was naturally delighted with the great success of the Air Race, and was particularly pleased that two British competitors, Scott and Black, had won the event,

AIR RACE

The event had given, he said, a Allip to aviation, and he was pleased with that, because he was most interested in aviation.

He was following the progress made in this direction with the keenest interest, and he saw the day when all the malls of the world would be air-borne in- stead of sea-borne,

"I am sorry," he said, "for the poor shipping companies; because I have not the slightest doubt that when the present mail contracts

the terminate, all

Governments will, in all likelihood, arrange with the Air Liries for the carriage of the mails.

"You can see that from a study of the building programmes of the various Lines-all building aero- planes not only to carry passen- gers but malls........

"The Centenary Race showed that with suitable planes mails could be carried in much less time than, in ships."

It was his opinion that a great future lay in the whaling industry In those regions, and he thought that the time had come when con- certed action should be taken "in the matter.

It was the best whaling region in the world; whales weighing. over 100 tons had been captured from time to time.

The Antarctic was at Australia's back door, only four days away.

It was a matter of great surprise to him to observe that "nothing had hitherto been done in that direction.

Sir MacPherson then referred to the great work which was being
