Benvenuto Cellini.is not only the greatest goldsmith in all Europe in the 16th century, but feared as a firebrand fighter, and notorious as a lover. His one love is Della, Lady-inWaiting to the Duchess of Florence. This Duchess falls madly in love with Ben- venuto and several times säves him from hanging. The Duke of Florence, desirous of Benvenuto's beautiful but dumb model, Angela, swears he will hang Benvenuto for abducting the girl from the palace. But again the sort of the Duchess wing back Ben- menuto's life. Benvenuto, however, risks the Duchess displeasure by making love to Della in the palace. The Duke arranges to give a formal banquet in the palace in Benvenuto's honor, Angela was coached on banquet behavior by Benvenuto, but there was no tell ing if she would remember his instructions.
