INTERNATIONAL RUGGER
Scotland Wins At
Murrayfield
London, Mar. 18. In the International Rugby match at Murrayfield, Scotland beat England by ten points (two goals) to seven (one drop goal and one try). This result gives Ireland 'the International Championship and the Calcutta Cup.
A crowd of 70,000 people watch- ed the encounter in glorious weather and on an ideal ground. The first serious attack came from the Scottish three-quarters who were going at great speed, passing beautifully, until Boughton, Eng- land's full back, started to tackle in deadly earnest. The Scottish forwards had the better of the argument, but not sumelent to give the backs any great advantage. England's centres and touch kick- ing kept them on the offensive un- tit Heaton passed to Cranmer who feinted out towards the wing and dropped a fine, goal with the left foot to give England the lead.

A SALUTE OF
GUNS
It Is Always An Odd Number
may
Plausible as this theory sound, it is of a legendary charat ter, and one can only imagine that salute-firing is akin to the way Moorish borsemen and Western cowboys are off their rifles or re- volvers out of sheer high spirits,
In India
In this country the number of guns fred in a sainte la fuvariably an odd one, the popular theory being that it is to prevent, any chance of too few guns being fired, owing to a miscount. The odd gun is thrown in, as it were, to make weight.
