China bought. The tone at the close was uncertain with busi- ress done at a fraction under the quoted rates. In america the rate rose 1/4 at 59 1/4 for Spot.

Sterling
The market "opened with sellers at 2/0 3/16, buyers bidding 3/0 5/18. Subsequently a small busi- ness was done at 2/0 1/4 for May delivery followed by transactions at 2/0 5/16 for June. At this stage the market weakened and oners at 2/0 1/4 were accepted for June delivery and 2/0 3/16 was arranged for cash and forward. The market closed with sellers ab 2/0 1/16 March-April and 2/0 1/8 May-June, buyers at 2/0 3/18 March-June.
U. S. DollarS Business was done during the early part of the morning at 48 3/8 for second half of April and later 48 5/16 was done for April and 48 3/16 for near delivery. The mar- ket closed with sellers at 48 1/8 March, 48 3/16 April and 43 1/4 May, buyers at 48 1/4 March-Apri and 48 5/18 May.
