Athens, Mar 3. Despite the reassuring official statements, the situation in Greece appears to be considerably ag- gravated by Venizelos' open re- marks in support of the revolt and by the negotiations for the sur- render of the mutinous naval for- ces heaving been miscarried, Veni- zelos, who is implacable for the present Government delivered a fiery speech at a mass meeting in the island of Crete in which he in- cited the population to open rebel- lion, and the latest reports have it that the entire island has joined in the insurrection.

Paris, March 3. The Greek general. Plastiras, replying to Pressmen who plyed him with questions as to the truth of the
rumours that he is the real organiser" of the revolt in 'Greece, declared that he knew
absolutely nothing about the in- surrection except what he had read in the newspapers. Plastiras. who has been living in exile in Cannes for the last few years, ad- mitted that he was not at all sur- prised at the turn of events since fundamental differences of opinion existed between the genuine re- publicans and the Government party which were really monarchist though pretending to the republi- can. The elections had returned "false republicans" to power by a trifling majority, Greece was split into two camps, and he was con- vinced that the present Govern ment would be always unpopular
Regarding his own plans, Plas- tiras stated that he was ready to
Admiral Typaidoes who has been conducting negotiations for surren- "der with the commanders of the rebel ships anchored off the island of Milos, reported on Sunday that his efforts had been unavailing. A score of bombing planes took off on Sunday afternoon with orders to bombard the rebels till they agree to unconditional surrender. Mean while the authorities continue their endeavours to prevent further spread of the revolt by arresting all persons even remotely suspected of sympathising with the revolu- tionary movement. Many oppost- tion leaders, including all senators and deputies of the opposition lea-offer ders, as well as numerous officers have been taken into custody but some leading Venizelosists among whom was the president of the Senate, seem to have made good their escape.

of naval reservists have been called to colours and it is understood that several army réservists also will be mobilised in order to replace or be interspersed with troops considered unreliable.
