THE AFFAIRS OF CELLINI
The Story Of A Great Lover, A Great Artist-The Most Charming
Rascal Of All Time
(By LEWIS ALLEN BROWNE)
He took my hand and led me to the rost arbour.
Benvenuto Cellini,- Florence, 1500-1571, was the most gifted goldsmith of the 16th century, but equally, noted as a fighter and as a autorious lover. In his prime when he has found his one love in the court of the Duchess of Florence, and the Duchess, at the same time, is determined to make him her lover, he is on the list of men doomed to be hanged. The Duchess is trying to save him, when, an emissary comes from Venier with a beautiful girl, to make grave charges against him.!
in these bits of help for Ben- venuto.
The Duchess of Florence gave but one glance at Cavalier Baudini and then stared at the very young and very beautiful girl beside him. The girl was nobly born, as one might see at a glance. The Duchess smiled inwardly, for she guessed the nature of the complaint, and the charge agalast Benvenuto. What girl of tender years, could withstand the charms of Ben- venute when he smiled at her and seemed to look into her very soul?
Alessandro promptly took in- terest upon seeing the beautiful girl who stood patiently, eyes downcast. Both youth and beauty In-femininity-always-Interested- him. The Duchess noticed this with amusement.

Is it your story, Signorita?" he asked the girl.
"It is my story. Excellency.". "Then, if the emissary is willing, we shall let you tell It."
Still the girl hesitated and the Duchess, fearing that she might be too afraid to tell her story, gave her encouragement, because her curiosity was increasing.

We have heard many stories, and not all pretty ones." The demanded. Duchess than stared at the girl "Who is the lady? Why is the here?" she demanded.
