DISARMAMENT

AGREEMENT

Committee Session Adjourned

[Special to the "Hong Kong Daily Press" (Copyright).3

Geneva, Feb. 21.

of

The second committee of the Disarmament Conference, that is the Committee to determine gene- ral conditions of the disarmament agreement, adjourned itself' in- definitely on Thursday. Only two meetings had been held since Its reassembly last Monday. The work would not be resumed until the committee for the supervision of trade and manufacture

some armaments has arrived at tangible result. Thursday's session of the Committee for "the deter- mination of general conditions of the disarmament agreement con- cerned itself exclusively with technical debate on several arti- cles of the United States proposal as far as these affect the work of the commission for permanent supervision and disarinament.

8

At the close of the session, the Soviet delegate. Boris Steln made a long declaration, emphasising that Russia. had never opposed the appointment of a permanent Stein, disarmament commission. however, expressed the view that such a commission must Crown the work of disarmament and noti to discuss it before. It becomes an accomplished fact. Until such time as the disarmament agree- sald ment is signed the task,

to organise peace.

That is why last year Russia ad- | vocated the plan of converting the disarmament conference until further notice into a permanent peace and safety conference. Stein expressed regret that this proposal which had actually been placed on the agenda of the pre- st committee meeting had not been discussed.- Transocran Eva Vin
