MR. SUN MEETS WITH ACCIDENT

Two records were broken on the fourth day of the Annual Race Meeting yesterday, Soldier of Britain accounting for Troatbridge, the favourite, in the Ladies Purse in the record time of 1443 while Racing Heart created a new record in the Adelaide. Stakes, finishing in 1.58.3.

Liberty Bay as won the Champion Stakes convincingly by many lengths but was un- backed on account of the ban put up by the Hong Kong Jockey Club the previous day. Sadko was second and King's Warden was third, Diana Bay also took part in this race but was naplaced.

Mr. S. Y. Sun, the well-known Shanghai jockey, who steered Soldier of Britain to vic- tory in the Ladies Purse in record time, met with a somewhat nasty accident in the Blue „ Mountain Plate later in the afternoon when his mount stumbled and threw him to the ground Just near the finishing post. He received a kick in the right hip from the pony and was bad- ly winded.

The dividend for the Daily Double was $486.20. LEIGHTON HILL, STAKES There were 23 starters for this race. Strathnairn with Mr. Proulx got the best start and led, almost till the last quarter when Wade- bridge and Emergency Call spurted past her. GRAND STAND STAKES. There was a good start in this race in which twelve ponies took part. Pontiac Bay and High Hon-" our took the lead together, followed closely by Pacific Hall. In the straight, however, Flirt and Ythan spurted ahead and there was a thrilling struggle between these two ponies and Pontiac Bay, who managed to win by a short head. Ythan was second, a short head in front of Flirt.

The time for this race was 1.58.3, another record beating the previous best time of 2.00-2/5 which was set up by High Finance

THE JOCKEY CLUB STAKES Thirteen ponies faced the starter for this race, Fudge was the first to get away but he dropped behind when near the Black Rock Bright View was conspicuous at this stage but in the straight she was beaten by Boldier of Germany by 3 lengths; New Star was third being the same distance behind.

THE BLUE MOUNTAINS PLATE

This race which was won by Rose 'Ann was marred by an unfortunate accident to Mr." Simi who was rid ing Soldier of Australia. Just near the finishing post the pony stumb- led and throw Mr. Sun rather heavily on the ground, at the same time kicking him on the right hip which winded him badly...

GRIFFINS CONSOLATION

STAKES Foxbridge ridden by Mr. Marshall won this race from a field of 11 starters Estover led from the starthile Jolly Eyes was last many lengths behind. At the last quarter Foxbridge who was lying fifth all the time came up with a spurt, followed closely behind by Soldier of Peace and Bonny Dun- dee which finished for this order.

A sterling tribute to the splendid services rendered by the Hon. Mr. Charles Gordon Mackle, to racing in the Colony, was paid by His Excellency the Governor. Sir Wiliam Peel, E.C.' M.G. K.BE during the tifin interval at the races when he presented Mr. Machtle, on behalf of the stewards, officials and members of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, a silver salver, a silver coffee set and a silver cigarette case.

FRIENDLY GAME

United v. German Club

The United, after having en- gaged the Radio earlier in the day in a Mamak tournament game later played the German Club in a friendly match, later, the game resulting in a draw of two goals each.

Owing to shortage of players. Chowdhury. the Radio forward, turned out for the German team. Bander at the German forward Hne showed good combination with Chowdhury.

Winch scored for the United in the first half while Chowdhury equalised....

In the second half, Bander scored for the German side to which the left in of the United replied.
