The feature of yesterday's racing was the success of Cold Morning in the Rooty Hil Derby, the pony winning after faring in a bad start, in record time!

Earlier in the day, Bobniak Star set a new record for the six furlongs for Australians. Seventeenth of September won the Subscription Griffins Challenge Cup and Gold Picker won the Governor's Cup to pay $241 to his supporters, which was the biggest dividend of the day.

Mr. Needs won a fine race on Sadko in the Peking Plate to beat King's Warden, who, the previous day, had tied with: Diana Bay.

yesterday. New Star was third and Hatman, who led the main part

up the home straight. Strathnairn led for the greater part of the way but faded out of the picture in the straight where he was passed by Bold Major who in turn was passed by The Deems- ter and Invincible Knight. High Principle was fourth and Begin- Der's Luck Afth.

THE TIENTSIN STAKES (1 MILĖ)

Mistake Bay won the second, race from a field of sixteen without much trouble. Tammany Hall led over the first half mile, where Mistake Bay took charge, followed by. High Honour, Soldier of Victory and Ythan. They finished in that order, only a head separating kiigh |.. Honour from Soldier of Victory "with Ythan, only a head behind.

THE CORAL PLATE Saucy Face, hot favourite for the Australians' six furlongs finished. amongst the also ran in a race in which Bobniak Star clipped 2-1/5 seconds off the record... Mount Pilatus, who set the pace, could only finish third, Night Star tak- ing second place. The winner paid 16-1 to his supporters in a field

of nine starters.

--EXCHANGE, FLATE Liberty Bay romped home in front of King's Justice and Sadko in the Exchange Plate. There was

not much of a race as King's Jus-

tice set 1.57.1 for the first mile and Liberty Bay passed him to win in 2.26. The others were outpaced.

THE ROYAL NAVY CUP Bistre won a spectacular race from Delightful Chance In the Royal Navy Cup, where Tiny Star led all the way round followed by Young Chap. THE GYMKHANA STAKES Oak Bay, a warm' favourite for the last race, together with King's Fancy were both unplaced in the last race of day, which fell to Gladiator, who did a mile in 1,58.15 Ribble, Mr. Needa up, took second place und The Tiger just nosed out Oak Bay for the remaining place.

Great Progress In Last Ten Years

Moscow.

Boxing at a mass sport was in- troduced in the Soviet Union only in the years 1980-1983, while before that only comparatively few people systematically engaged in boxing.

The All-Union boxing meet of 1934 attracted "over 100 boxers, among them being for the first time representatives of the Far East, Western Siberia, Northern Caucasus, Karelia, Saratov, etc. The meet revealed great improve ment in technique and style of the Soviet boxer

Over 20 boxing-schools exist now in the U.S.9.R including Lening- rad, Tiflis, Vladivostok, Odessa, No- vosibirsk, and other places,

Soviet boxers have repeatedly up- peared at international boxing contests, in Great Britain, Turkey Latvia, Sweden, Germany, Finland, and Norway.

Recently Soviet boxers made a fine display in Czechoslovakia, and Norway The Soviettenm com- prised the best boxers of the U.S.S.R.-all champions in their respective weights.

Soviet boxers had three contests in Norway and Czechoslovakia.. Einal results in Norway wore 18-8 favour of U.S.S.A team and in also in Szechoslovakia 23-11, favour of the U.89.BR. A match with the national team" of Czechoslovakia. boxers ended in a victory for the Soviet boxers with"; the score 9-7.-
