The death has occurred of the dxplorer and yachtsman, Mr. Her ert Weld.-- Reuter.
He had travelled through Somaliland and over Abyssinia to the Sudan, mapping and collecting and big game hunting. He brought back specimens of 830 species of birds and 17 new species, all pre- sented to the British Museum of Natural History.
He acted as correspondent to the "Morning Post" in the Boer Wär.

One of the most essential prerequisites for the success of German shipping in International competition is the emciency of German ship-building and the co-operating ship's outt ting industry, "It is clear that only the employment of the best of German material and men animated with the true German seaman's spirit can develop to the full, its propagative force to the benefit of our national traffic and economie policy. Recog nising this, shipping in national-socialistic Germany is advanë- ing consciously towards a gradual reconstruction and building- up of its fleet. A start has already been made. On December 14th, 1934. the "Scharnhorst" (approximately 18,000 tons) was launched at the yards of the Deutsche Schiff-und Maschinen- bau-Aktiengesellschaft. The "Gneisenau." a sister-ship of the same size, is under construction at the same yard.
