Nanking, Feb. 1. Mr. Cheng Chung Hul Section of Ghter of the Department Agriculture of Ministry of Indus- try, has been
ordered 10 conduct an extensive investiga- tion of sericultural conditions of provinces of Anhwel and Hupeh. Mr Chang will set out on the tour ¡in one or two days and is expected to complete his investigation in a month.
This investigation tour is pré- paratory to the execution of the Ministry's comprehensive plan for the promotion of sericulture in the various silk-producing - provinces, with Anhwel and Hupeh to receive the Arst consideration, and to be extended to Shantung, Szechuan and other provinces, If successful. The silk industry of Chekiang and Kiangsu, the foremost "silk- producing provinces, has
been
most severely affected by the gen- eral depression in the last years, and does not seem to show signs of recovery owing to high costs of land and labour. Such conditions have prompted the Ministry to turn their attention to Anhwel and Hupeh as the potential pro- vinces for the promotion and al- timate revival of the silk industry of the country, the land and labour costs In the latter two pro- vinces being cheaper than, and climatic and soll conditions for the cultivation of mulberry trees "and the rearing of cocoons quite as suitable as Cheklang and Klang- 30.-
